Project Fieldworks

As part of a four (4)-day fieldwork, the PEOPLES Team led by Dr. Caroline Marie B. Jaraula (Project Investigator) collected water and sediment samples along Cagayan River. For Day 1, the team conducted coastal sampling around Cagayan River and Macajalar Bay with the assistance of the Coastguard District Northern Mindanao Station. For Day 2, the team collected samples via the Carmen Bridge. This was followed by another coastal sampling within Cagayan River and Macajalar Bay. Day 3 was dedicated to terrestrial sampling where the following sites were visited for sampling: Rodelsa Bridge, Taguanao Bridge, Maasin Bridge, Spillway Bobonawan River,  Libona Bridge, Agusan Canyon, and Agusan River, Barangay Tablon. 

 

On the last day, Dr. Jaraula and Ms. Joanne R. Constantino (Project Information Officer) was assisted by Mr. Kevin Salazar of Cagayan de Oro City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CDO CLENRO) to collect wastewater samples from hospitals. The team was able to acquire wastewater samples from both public and private hospitals.

On November 9-11, 2019, the PEOPLES Team together with the assistance of the Coast Guard Station Davao went to various sites in Davao to conduct watershed and coastal sampling. For Day 2, the team was joined by teachers from the Philippine Science High School Southern Mindanao Campus (PSHS-SMC). They were trained to do coastal sampling for both water and sediment samples. The team collected samples for both microbiological and nutrient testing. Samples for analyses of pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) and hydrocarbons were also conducted.
